Chairs

I made my first chair down in Westonbirt Woodworks in 2017. I had an ambitious plan to make a rocking chair and Paul Hayden let me when he saw I had some skills and an eye for shape. I set up a bodger’s bench and pole lathe at home and used wood from the garden to make tool handles, rails and similar. I went back and made another rocker designed for a different sized person. I made a steam box. I kept making chairs till 2023, though the last chair is really a sculpture. I made friends with a lot of skilled people, passed on skills, widened people’s design ideas and made them smile, wrote booklet, sold a lot of chairs for charity and made myself smile too. If it wasn’t for the arthritis everywhere, I’d probably be still at it. I’ve moved on to the painting and sculpture instead.
