Bow Armed Child’s Rocker

This chair was made for a very young child but with the aim of making adaptable for changing size. My granddaughter of 6 could still sit in it. Becasue the child was so young, I was even more worried about the risk of standing on the chair and rocking over. As well as making the rockers fairly flat in pattern to reduce rocking momentum, I also used the bow arm to make standing on the chair less tempting. What weight there is is concentrated low down to make it more stable too.

The whole thing is made of Ash that I bought a lot of from a firewood place that had invested in a chain saw guiding device to allow cutting down a large log to make planking, hoping to make it more valuable. I had to teach myself some drying and storage tricks pretty quickly.

Having no Bandsaw, I had to be imaginative about cutting the larger pieces such as seats and rockers.
