Ossett and the Queen

When I came to live at this house, the shunting yard was still in operation and there would be lights and noise all night. I also used to pass it on the train at odd times for many years, particularly when I lived up here but worked down in London during the 1970’s. During the celebrations for one of Queen Elizabeth II’s jubilees, the royal train camped down there overnight. Even as a staunch republican, that appeals to my sense of history for little folk, particularly as I am writing this when she has just died. The painting was done on a tablet with Art Rage.

View from near the bottom of the garden. Disused railway viaduct, former shunting yard light.
Shunting yard in snow, with some rolling stock still there.
Pencil view from the platform.
This one was painted to celebrate Ruth and I getting together in 2007. It includes the Sculpture Park, walks in the Lakes, family and events, but still celebrates this place as well.
