Stephen’s Perching Stools

After designing and getting a new kitchen fitted, Stephen wanted to perch at the breakfast bar to have coffee and do the crossword. Assessing what wood was left from my firewood man purchase and parts of logs remaining from previous chairs, we started discussing form and function. We then experimented with different shapes, sizes and carving till we were happy. As the seats are lighweight, we reinforced them with a block for each leg, giving extra mortice depth.

They work and are surprisingly comfortable taking a proportion of the weight off your feet but not putting it all on your rear end. They work best if made for the right leg length, but Ruth and I both regularly use one I made for our kitchen and there is at least 15cm difference in our heights.
